Chuda Ghasa* (Dried & Ground Flattened Rice Mix) - A traditional Odia prasad that originated from Puri Jagannath Temple and is made during special occasions like Ganesh Pooja.

 

Ingredients

  1. Flattened Rice (Chuda) - 1kg
  2. Sugar or Jaggery - 250g
  3. Grated Coconut - 500g
  4. Clarified Butter (Desi Ghee) - 4 tbsp
  5. Black Pepper Powder - 1 tbsp
  6. Cardamom Powder - 1 tsp
  7. Edible Camphor (Pachai Karpoor) - a pinch

 

Preparation Method

Step 1: Grind the flattened rice till a coarse mixture is formed

Step 2: Place the mixture on a large plate

Step 3: Add ghee to the ground rice and mix using your palms till the ghee is evenly distributed

Step 4: Add grated coconut, sugar or dried jaggery and mix using your hands evenly

Step 5: Add the black pepper and cardamom powder and mix using your hands evenly

Step 6: Finally add a pinch of edible camphor to the bowl(_do not add more than a pinch as it may turn the mixture bitter_)

Step 7: Garnish with a small amount of grated coconut and serve
