Origin of the Recipe

Chhena poda is a traditional sweet originated from Nayagarh in the state of Odisha. It was first prepared in 1947 by the-then local sweet shop owner late Sudarshan Sahu.


Ingredients

  • 1kg chhena
  • 50gms sooji
  • 300gms of sugar
  • 10-15 grinded green cardamoms
  • 10-15 pieces roasted cashew nuts
  • 50ml desi ghee

Method

  • Mix the chhena, sooji, sugar, cashew nuts and green cardamom powder in a big pot. 
  • Use a hand mixer to make a smooth batter. 
  • Preheat the oven at 200 ºC. Prepare sugar caramel using 50gms of sugar. 
  • You can use butter paper or banana leaf in the bottom of the container. 
  • Spread the caramel on butter paper or banana leaf. 
  • Pour and spread smooth batter to the container. 
  • Spread 40-50ml of ghee on top of the batter and bake it for 40-45 mins until the top turns light brown in color. 
  • Take out the container and allow it to cool down at least 2-3 hours at room temperature. 
  • Cut into pieces and ready to serve.
