Origin of the Recipe
Chhena poda is a traditional sweet originated from Nayagarh in the state of Odisha. It was first prepared in 1947 by the-then local sweet shop owner late Sudarshan Sahu.
Ingredients
- 1kg chhena
- 50gms sooji
- 300gms of sugar
- 10-15 grinded green cardamoms
- 10-15 pieces roasted cashew nuts
- 50ml desi ghee
Method
- Mix the chhena, sooji, sugar, cashew nuts and green cardamom powder in a big pot.
- Use a hand mixer to make a smooth batter.
- Preheat the oven at 200 ºC. Prepare sugar caramel using 50gms of sugar.
- You can use butter paper or banana leaf in the bottom of the container.
- Spread the caramel on butter paper or banana leaf.
- Pour and spread smooth batter to the container.
- Spread 40-50ml of ghee on top of the batter and bake it for 40-45 mins until the top turns light brown in color.
- Take out the container and allow it to cool down at least 2-3 hours at room temperature.
- Cut into pieces and ready to serve.
