Habisa Daalma

Moong Dal 

1 Cup

Peeled and chopped into cubes ସାରୁ/ Arbi 

50 gms

ଓଉ / Elephant Apple 

1 Unit

Raw banana / Plantain 

100 gms or 1 Unit cut into cubesized pieces

Ginger 

1 inch piece smashed

Dry roasted and powdered cumin seeds 

1.5 table-spoon

Salt 

1 table-spoon

Ghee 

1 table-spoon

Roasted and powdered Black pepper 

1 table-spoon

Water 

3 cups

କନ୍ଦମୂଳ / Sweet potato 

50 gms

ଗୁଡ / Jaggery 

A small cube / 30 gms

Grated coconut 

50 gms

Cumin powder roasted 

10 gms

Green Banana leaf 

1 Unit

Recommended Steps: 

  •  Wash the vegetables and then cut those as recommended above. 
  •  In a strong pan, boil the water. Then add salt into it. After 1 mins, put the above vegetables  and after 1 more minute, add the moong dal. 
  • After the dal is half cooked with the vegetables , add the ginger and the jaggery. 
  • Once everything is almost cooked, add the Elephant Apple(little bit crush it), adjust salt  to taste and switch off the fire. 
  • In another small pan, heat the ghee and add the cumin seeds. Once it splutters , pour this mixture on the dal. 
  • Add roasted cumin powder and grated coconut. 

Recommended serving: 

And now the delicious Habisa daalma is ready to be served with Rice and ghee on a green  banana leaf. 

Its recommended to serve & eat hot. 

Eat as a family.
